Taqiyyah – Deny, Deny, Deny, Attack

August 1, 2011

It has not taken long for Islamist apologists, and other low lights, to utilize the Norway massacre to their own ends.  A chief one being silencing of those who speak out against Islam.  CAIR, MPAC, and other functionaries of the Muslim Brotherhood have beat the drum as often, and as loudly, as they can.  More insidious, in my view, is a recent article by Dr. Ibrahim Kalin, in which he calls for the investigation of those who speak out against the dangers that Islamists pose to freedom and Western Civilization.  It is ironic that Dr. Kalin was educated at George Washington University, yet does not understand freedom.

The Norwegian massacre has falsified the claims that Islamophobia, unlike anti-Semitism, does not involve violence and thus is a matter of freedom of speech and right to criticize. After the murderous act of Anders Behrig Breivik, the 32-year old Norwegian responsible for the attacks, and the ideology behind it, Islamophobia can no longer be taken lightly. Like anti-Semitism and racism, Islamophobia is a crime against humanity and should be criminalized.

It is apparent through the article that Dr. Kalin’s definition of “Islamophobia” relates to any person or action or idea that is against Islam, or is critical of Islam.  Any prejudicial idea can lead to violence, when taken to the extreme.  However, we do not condone the banning of ideas, no matter how hair-brained.  Freedom of Speech is the freedom to think and the freedom to voice opinion, with the understanding that your opinion may make some people mad, offended, put off, or disgusted.

Anti-Semitism is not  a “crime against humanity”; however, brutal, violent, murderous actions in the name of anti-semitism can be considered ‘crimes against humanity’.  Dr. Kalin is twisting his words to meet his aim, which is to ride the tide of the Norway Massacre in order to make it illegal, immoral, or criminal, to speak out against Islam.

The Norwegian massacre has brought to the fore some painful and uncomfortable facts. First of all, incitement against a religious or ethnic group can lead to violence and terrorism. This is exactly what happened after the terrorist attacks of September 11 in the US. The American Muslim community became the target of numerous attacks and policies of suspicion and intimidation.

While any crime against a minority group is to be decried, it is also very important to hold true to fact and reality when discussing “Islamophobia” or any other type of prejudice.  While it is true that crimes against muslims jumped considerably in the immediate post-9/11 time period, he facts show that crimes against muslims have been on a downward trend since late-2001.  Further, crimes against muslims have been far out-shadowed by crimes against Jews and other groups.

So what are the punch lines of Islamophobia? They are the well-known stereotypes and prejudices about Islam and Muslims: Islam is inherently violent and bent on overtaking and destroying Western civilization; Islam wants to subjugate Jews and Christians; Islam cannot tolerate pluralism; Islam oppresses women; Muslims cannot integrate but want to dominate in the West; Muslims seek to convert everyone by force; Muslims are potential terrorists and should be watched, monitored, profiled; Muslim minorities in the West cannot be trusted because their primary loyalty is to the ummah, not to the countries in which they live. These and similar diatribes against Islam and Muslims are forged out of ignorance, fear and hatred as well as deliberate ideological choices. Its deceiving power stems from its ability to combine irrational and sentimental elements.

This is an interesting list from Dr. Kalin, because it looks exactly like a list of thing which the holy Qur’an tells Muslims to do or not do.

Surah 9:29 – “Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day…”

Surah 5:51 – “O ye who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians for your friends and protectors: they are but friends and protectors to each other. And he amongst you that turns to them (for friendship) is of them. Verily God guideth not a people unjust.”

Surah 9:5“Then, when the (four) sacred months (of respite, during which fighting with those who associate partners with God and violate their treaties was prohibited to you,) are over, then (declare war on them and) kill them wherever you may come upon them, and seize them, adn confine them, and lie in wait for them at every conceivable place.  Yet, if the repent and (mending their ways) established the Prescribed Prayer and pay the Prescribed Purifying Alms, let them go their way…”

Surah 4:34 “As for those whom you fear disobedience, admonish them and send them to beds apart and beat them.

These four verses are simply an example of those things which muslims are instructed to do, by the Qur’an, which directly address that which Dr. Kalin is listing.  We believe these things about muslims because that is what is written in their holy book.  Robert Spencer did not make this stuff up; it is in the holy Qur’an.

The Islamophobic network from which Breivik derived his ideas and action extend from the US Islamophobes such as Robert Spencer, Bat Ye’or and their colleagues to racist European political groups. This network of individuals and underground groups should now be exposed and investigated. Their potential danger should be clear to everyone now. It cannot be seen as one sad isolated incident.

Here is the reality:  This is one sad isolated incident.  There have been no other mass murders in the name of “saving Europe from Islam.”  It simply has not happened.  What has happened, and is still happening, is that terrorist acts across the globe continue to be carried out by muslims, most of them citing the holy Qur’an as their justification.

Do ideas lead to action?  Yes.  Do extreme ideas sometimes lead to extreme and violent actions?  Yes, unfortunately, they do.  However, our answer is not to criminalize the ideas, or the discussion of ideas.  We criminalize actions because it only through actions do a person’s freedom to hold ideas impact those around him.

Dr. Kalin, and all who love freedom, would do to heed the words of his alma mater’s namesake, who said, “If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter.”
