Tragedy in Norway…UPDATED 1925 PDT

July 22, 2011

1925 PDT – The Telegraph is reporting on the identity of the they Utoya island shooter:

The man arrested in connection with the Utoya island shooting was named last night by the the justice ministry as Anders Behring Breivik, a 32-year-old Norwegian national. Investigators believe he was also involved in the bombing, but have not ruled out the possibility that he had accomplices.

Reuters.com is saying that there are up to 80 killed from the youth camp on Utoya: here

Michelle Malkin has an excellent breakdown, as well as backstory/history.here.

The Telegraph UK has this update:

20.59 AP is now reporting that Oslo police say nine or 10 people were killed at the youth camp.

20.50 Jonas Gahr Store, the country’s foreign minister, is on BBC News. He says the young people on the island were 15-20 years old and are the country’s “finest”.

Norway is today dealing with a double attack on its democracy, its government buildings and its finest youth. There’s no more important task than for us to preserve these values and honour our young people.”

Some reports are saying that a previously unknown Islamist group is taking credit.  Other, more widespread, are saying that the shooters on the island near Utoeya were “blond” and “nordic-looking”.  Obviously, we will reserve judgement until more definitive information is released.  I believe that Reuters was reporting that an arrest had been made on the island…Actually, Reuters had posted a tweet by Brad Frenette of the Vancouver Sun.

New York Times is reporting on a group claiming responsibility:

A terror group, Ansar al-Jihad al-Alami, or the Helpers of the Global Jihad, issued a statement claiming responsibility for the attack, according to Will McCants, a terrorism analyst at C.N.A., a research institute that studies terrorism.

We will continue to pray for the people and leaders of Norway today.
